[What is a packing?]
A packing is also called a gasket. It is a sealing material used for parts and mechanisms that perform rotational and reciprocating motions. Seals are classified as contact seals that come in contact with the moving part and non-contact seals that do not come into contact. Contact seals include O-rings, oil seals and mechanical seals. Non-contact seals include labyrinth seals used to seal compressed gas.
