Precautions

Precautions for use

◆ When installing, removing, or servicing sensors and cables in the area, please turn off the power first and have a professional perform the operation.
◆ Before each use, you must check whether the area sensor is properly controlling the equipment.
◆ Do not arbitrarily change the position of the protective area sensor during use.
◆ After changing the mold or jig, the safety distance and installation position of the protective area sensor must be adjusted by authorized personnel.
◆ During use, be careful not to let workpieces, tools, waste materials, etc. collide with the area sensor, its connector, or cables.

Precautions for Adjacent Installation

When two or more sets of area sensor devices are installed close to each other, mutual interference between the area sensor devices can easily occur. As shown in Figure 3-1, the infrared light emitted by the transmitter unit of Product (1) may affect the receiver unit of Product (2) . This may interfere with the protective function of product (2), which means that operators may be at risk. Therefore, please install according to Figure 3-2. Avoid installing sensors for adjacent areas on the same side without a light-blocking partition, as the light emitted by the transmitter may easily reach the receiver of a neighboring set.

Correct installation position in the presence of reflective objects

If there are objects with smooth reflective surfaces around the area sensor device, such as metal plates, floors, ceilings, workpieces, covers, partitions, glass plates, etc., the installation position of the area sensor should be more than A (m) away from the reflective surface. The value of A can be obtained by calculation formula or found in coordinate chart 4-2. As shown in Figure 4-1, the cone has an aperture angle α, which is formed between the optical axis and the light beam located at the edge of the optical cone. Where α = the aperture angle of the light beam, L = the distance between the emitter and receiver, and L

Frequently asked question (FAQ)

Question: Is it necessary to use the recommended safety relay for the external monitoring input function of light curtain products?
Answer: You can use a regular one, but it is not as safe as a dedicated safety relay.
Question: What is the difference between automatic reset and manual reset of safety light curtains?
Answer: Automatic reset: When the safety light curtain is operating normally and the light is blocked by an object, the safety output of the light curtain is turned off and the OFF indicator lights up. After the object is removed, the safety output of the light curtain returns to normal and the ON indicator lights up.
Manual reset: When the safety light curtain is operating normally and the light is blocked by an object, the safety output of the light curtain is turned off and the OFF indicator lights up. After the object is removed, the emitter stops, but the safety output of the light curtain remains off and the OFF indicator stays on. An external reset signal is required for the safety output of the light curtain to return to normal, at which point the ON indicator lights up.
Question: What is the function of the EDM signal in a safety light curtain?
Answer: EDM (External Device Monitor) refers to monitoring external devices, specifically the function of detecting malfunctions (such as contact welding) in external devices that control hazardous parts of machinery. These external devices are generally safety relays or contactors. It can continuously monitor whether a specific voltage is applied to the external relay monitoring input line on the receiver side, and the light curtain will enter a locked state in case of an error. If the relay operation delay exceeds 300 ms, it is considered an error.
Example: If, within 300 ms after the control output switches from ON to OFF, the normally closed contact of the external relay has not yet closed (i.e., the specified voltage has not been applied to the external relay monitoring input line), it will be judged as an error and the light curtain will enter a locked state.
