Product Features
 
Feature 1: Has high-precision dimensional tolerances and is widely used in various precision equipment.
Feature 2: Uses bearing steel (S45C or GCr15) with excellent wear resistance and SUS440C or equivalent high-hardness corrosion-resistant steel, which are high-frequency quenched to enhance wear resistance while maintaining original toughness.
Feature 3: Various additional processing options are available to meet different usage environments.
Feature 4: Usually used in combination with linear bushings products, it provides excellent linear guidance. Compared to general shaft and bushing structures, even during high-speed reciprocating motion, there is minimal wear.
Feature 5: Optional hard chrome plating provides excellent rust resistance, and the coating hardness reaches HV750. It will not be easily worn when used with high-hardness workpieces.
 
Precautions
 

MISUMI High Precision Guide Shaft: One End Internal Thread, with Wrench Slot Type, Through Hole Type Selection Catalog(2) Decreased hardness in the machined area
 After quenching the base material, machining may cause some areas to lose hardness due to annealing:
- All external threads
 - All steps
 - Internal threads: When M ≥ D/2, double-hole internal thread type, hard chrome plated products made of SUS440C or high-hardness corrosion-resistant steel
 - Additional processing for wrench slot (SC-WSC-SX)
 - Additional processing for flat surface (FC-WFC)
 - Additional processing for V-groove (VC-WVC)
 - Except for full-length hardened type.
Only the shaded area of section D is hard chrome plated.

(3) Coating for Surface Treatment
 After surface treatment of the base material, processing is performed. The following areas are not plated:
- Grooved section
 -External thread section
 -Internal thread section
 -Wrench slot, V-groove, flat surface, cut surface
 -The inside of the pipe-type guide shaft may rust if hard chrome plating is not applied.

Question: Why did the stainless steel guide shaft product rust?
Answer: The stainless steel material used for the guide shaft is SUS440C or an equivalent high-hardness corrosion-resistant steel. After quenching, it has good wear resistance, but the material itself has relatively weak corrosion resistance. Therefore, if you require a high level of rust prevention, please choose products with a hard chrome plated surface treatment.
Question: The catalog lists guide shaft products as having high hardness, so why is the hardness measured at the center of the end face so low?
Answer: The guide shaft uses high-frequency quenching heat treatment, which forms a certain depth of hardened layer on the outer cylindrical surface of the guide shaft. To ensure the product's toughness, the center of the guide shaft retains the original hardness of the material.
Question: What are the advantages of combining guide shafts with linear bearings?
Answer: The guide shaft, in combination with the linear bearing through rolling friction, enables high-precision linear motion without causing excessive frictional resistance to the workpiece, making it suitable for long-term continuous operation.
Question: If you need a shaft product with a length of 100.5 mm, how do you select the model?
Answer: Additional machining by LKC is available; the total length can be specified in 0.1 mm increments.
Question: Why do the ends of guide shafts with hard chrome plating rust?
Answer: The guide shaft undergoes surface treatment during raw material production, and is then cut to length. No additional surface treatment is performed after cutting, so the cut ends do not have a hard chrome plating, which may cause the ends to rust.
Question: When the guide shaft and linear bearing are used together, some are closely matched, but some have relatively large clearance. Does it affect the use?
Answer: The guide shaft and linear bearing are in point contact and rolling fit through the circulating steel ball structure. Because of point contact and non-interference fit, it is normal to have clearance between the shaft and the bearing, which will not affect the use. The use of this structure greatly reduces the friction resistance and prolongs the service life of the workpiece.
Question: Is MISUMI's stainless steel guide shaft material imported?
Answer: MISUMI guide shafts are made from bearing steel (SUJ2) and stainless steel (SUS440C), both of which are imported from Japan.
Question: I would like to know the inspection methods and specification accuracy for the straightness of guide shafts.
Answer: Support both ends of the guide shaft with V-blocks, rotate the shaft one full turn at any point, and measure the dial gauge's runout. Half of the amplitude measurement is the straightness. Straightness may vary depending on the outer diameter and length.
Question: What is the perpendicularity accuracy of the guide shaft?
Answer: The perpendicularity of the standard type guide shaft is 0.2, and the perpendicularity of the precision type is 0.03.
